Immokalee Farmer's Market (Alt. Spring Break)

One stop on our tour of Immokalee was this amazing farmer's market. I couldn't stop saying "beautiful" the whole time. The vibrant colors of everything were amazing, and it was all so fresh. It was like an endless supply for my fruitbowl! Look at the size of the carrots. Needless to say, I ate my weight in fruit for this day's "snack." And, I had fruit juice from head to toe by the time I was finished.

And, we discovered a new fruit... cactus fruit. Apparently it comes form the cactus plant, and you can also eat the leaves of the cactus. One of the restaurants even sold cactus tacos!

The people of Immokalee, in general, are the sweetest. We were so excited when the cactus fruit vendor cut one open for us to try.

It was like a combination of watermelon and pomegranate. The seeds are larger than normal fruit seeds, but it is soft and sweet. If you are ever in the area, stop by this farmer's market! It is a great feeling to support the local economy, and you know you're getting fresh fruit here. And, it's so inexpensive! We paid $1 for two of these - they were 5 for $2.00. A huge box of sweet potatoes was $15... We meant to come home with one to share between three people, but we forgot to stop by on our way out.
